NEWS AND EVENTS

 “PAL SPONSORS SAND SCULPTING EVENT”

For families and individuals looking for adventure, creativity, and fun in the sun, the Fairfield Police

Athletic League is sponsoring their tenth annual Sand Sculpture Contest.  This year, the PAL will offer two Sand Sculpture Contests.  The first one will be in conjunction with the Fairfield Beach Residents Association’s popular Sand Sculpting event.  The PAL event is open to amateurs who want to try their hand at creating artwork at the beach.  It will take place on the sandbar at Penfield Beach on Sunday, June 28, from 9:15 am – 11:15 am.  Registration will begin at 9:00 am.There is no charge for this event but registration is required.   Registration forms will be available at the event. There is no pre-registration.  Just look for the PAL sign on the beach at Penfield on the day of the event.

Interested participants may register as teams or as individuals.  Individual entrants must be 18 years old or under and teams must include at least one member 18 or under.  Only objects found in nature may be included in the sculpture.  Participants should bring any tools that they’ll need to create their “masterpiece”. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:  Best Castle, Most Original Sculpture, Most Realistic Sculpture, and Most Artistic Creation.

Last year’s event drew more than 70 entrants (many with several team members) and the creations were impressive.  They included simple shapes, mermaids, alligators, castles, a turtle and a butterfly.  Participants ranged from very young to grandparents helping with family team entries.  All are welcome!

The Fairfield Police Athletic League is a local non-profit organization that offers positive activities for the youth of Fairfield.  This event is intended to offer “something to do” on a summer day for families and individuals.

For more information about this and other P.A.L. programs and events, please call the PAL message line at (203) 254-4865.
