The Explorer program is an official program of the Fairfield Police Department, designed by the Boy Scouts of America to expose young men and women (ages 13-22) to the vast career choices available in Law Enforcement today. Many of our alumni have continued to successfully achieve positions in local Law Enforcement, State Police Departments, as well as Federal appointments with Law Enforcement agencies throughout the country. Explorers learn in both the classroom and field environment, including actual "hands-on" field experience. Weekly meeting presentations including training on police duties, forensic science, self-defense, investigation, and even firearms and weaponry.
WHAT DO EXPLORERS DO?
Explorers are invited to participate in our ride-along program. Members are allowed to ride with patrol officers and respond to police calls, participating in the normal routines of community policing. Explorers learn and use proper radio operating procedures, writing police logs and reports, and interfacing with the community. Explorers assist officers in a variety of situations including directing traffic at accident scenes and routine investigations.
WHEN ARE MEETINGS?
The Fairfield Police Explorers meet every Monday night at 7:00pm at the Fairfield Police Department. Meetings consist of uniform inspections, training, discussions, and planning the many projects and events on the Explorers busy activities calendar. Members of the Fairfield Police Explorer Post 279 assume duties in special event traffic management, evidence recovery investigations, and policing of emergency disaster scenes.
WHO ARE THE ADVISORS?

Absolutely! Young women have always been a part of the Fairfield Police Department Explorer Program and share equal responsibilities in the program.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Post registration is only $10.00 yearly. Our many sponsors take care of most costs associated with being a member of Post 279. This includes, most uniform costs and travel expenses for state and national conferences and events. Some Explorers opt to purchase additional equipment, such as flashlights, boots, and leather gear...
