July 5th - Fun Fest, Fireworks, Parking & Traffic

Information on Fairfield's Independence Day Celebration to be held on July 5, 2014.  See below for information on Fairfield Family Fun Fest, Fireworks, Parking and Traffic.

All parking restrictions will be strictly enforced.  All vehicles found in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Fairfield Family Fun Fest will be held on Saturday, July 5th, from 10:00AM to 4:00PM on the historic Town Hall Green and Museum Campus.  Temporary posted parking restrictions associated with the fireworks will not go into effect until 6:00 PM on Saturday.  For more information, please go to www.fairfieldct.org/funfest.

PARKING AVAILABILITY:  Beach parking lots can be accessed either with a Season Beach Pass or by purchasing a Daily Pass for $50.00 per vehicle (cash only).  Daily Passes will be limited to the first 300 vehicles at Jennings Beach and 100 vehicles at Penfield Beach.  A Daily parking fee will also be charged to park at Ash Creek Parking Lot the day of the fireworks.   The Parks and Recreation Department suggests the public plan on arriving early.  The Department also reminds the public that alcoholic beverages are not permitted on Town beaches and the public is not permitted to bring their own grills.  Please go to the Parks & Recreation Website (www.fairfieldct.org/recreation) for further details.

NO PARKING / TOW ZONES:  In the interest of public safety, the below listed streets will be posted with “No Parking Tow-Away” signs on July 5, 2014. Any vehicles parked in the designated tow zone areas after 6:00 PM on July 5th will be towed at the owner’s expense. This is a necessary action to provide an access to the beach area for fire apparatus and other emergency vehicles and to facilitate the movement of the anticipated large volume of traffic.

  • REEF ROAD (from One Rod Hwy. to Fairfield Beach Rd.)
  • FAIRFIELD BEACH RD (from Beach Road to just west of Reef Road)
  • OLDFIELD RD. (from Reef Rd. to Old Post Rd.)

All streets in the beach area will be strictly enforced for parking violations and cars in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense.

FIREWORKS:  The fireworks will begin just after dark around 9:15 PM from a barge off of Long Island Sound so the show can be seen easily from Penfield and Jennings Beaches.  The warm-up band for the big show, The Atwood Express Oldies Band, is unable to perform on Saturday, July 5, 2014.

TRAFFIC / ROAD CLOSURES:  At the start of the fireworks, approximately 9:15pm, streets leading from the beach area will be “one way” to the Post Road and NO TRAFFIC will be permitted to go south into the beach area until exiting traffic has cleared. (This time may vary slightly due to the starting time of the fireworks display. Typically the streets are closed 15 minutes after the start of the fireworks.) In addition, Rowland Road will be closed to all traffic to allow access for emergency vehicles if needed.

At the end of the fireworks no vehicles leaving the beach area will be able to turn onto Old Post or Old Field Roads. All vehicles must proceed to the Post Road. Cars using Reef Road will be directed to turn westbound on Post Road. Vehicles on South Benson Road will be able to turn right (eastbound) onto Post Road or go straight onto N. Benson Road. Cars using Beach Road or Unquowa Road will be directed across the Post Road and cannot turn onto Post Road in either direction. This is to reduce the cross traffic and make it safer for pedestrians and allow for quicker clearance of the beach area.
