Recently, residents throughout Fairfield have fallen victim to fraudulent telephone scams, perpetrated by unknown individuals. The callers claim to be representatives of a variety of organizations such as the IRS, Police Departments, and Utility companies. In each case, the caller will indicate a major problem, raising your level of concern. A solution will ultimately be presented to you that will involve some type of monetary transaction, involving you being instructed to purchase gift cards or wiring money.
All of these calls are scams. Residents should hang up on the caller, provide no personal information, and never send money or gift card numbers to anyone you do not personally know.
Any resident who has lost money due to this fraudulent activity is urged to report the crime to the Fairfield Police by calling 203-254-4800.
