Freedom of Information Requests

Generally, all records maintained or kept on file by the Police Department, are considered public records, however, the right to information, is not absolute.  There are restrictions pertaining to the release of certain information.

Before making a request, first look to see if the information you are interested in is already publicly available.  You can find a lot of useful information on our website or by contacting the Records Unit at (203) 254-4800 (Option 1) for copies of police or accident report.  Certain accident reports are also available here.

If the information you want is not publicly available, you can submit a FOIA request. All requests are generally processed in the order they are received.

All FOIA requests are subject to appropriate fees as authorized by the Chief of Police and applicable statutes.  Fees are subject to change due to fluctuation in costs associated with personnel and equipment necessary to process such requests.
