Winter Storm Stella Update from Fairfield’s Emergency Management Team:
We are expecting a storm with snow accumulation of 12 to 18 inches. The snow is predicted to start around 5am Tuesday peaking around 9am with fall rates of 2-3 inches per hour. Please stay off the roads to let Public Works and Emergency Responders do their jobs. They are doing their best to keep us safe.
Winds are predicted to be sustained in the 30 mph range with gusts in the mid 40’s.
The storm is projected to wind down around 4pm though some snow showers may continue.
UI is projecting a possible 10,000 to 30,000 power outages throughout their 17 town territory.
Town Hall offices will be closed Tuesday, March 14th, along with Fairfield Schools and Board of Education offices.
We are expecting a 2 foot surge in Long Island Sound and this will lead to some amount of flooding in low lying beach areas. Residents in the beach area are asked to move their cars to higher ground in advance of the storm. Parking is available at Veterans Park.
Please stay home, stay warm and stay safe. We need your help in keeping the roads clear for Public Works. Once the storm subsides please remember to clear sidewalks and fire hydrants around your property. Please check in with any neighbors that may need help.
In addition, Governor Malloy has signed an order implementing a statewide travel ban beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. The travel ban will remain in effect until further notice. This is a prohibition on all vehicular traffic, including passenger vehicles, on all state roads, with the exception of emergency response and recovery vehicles, including public safety vehicles, utility vehicles, and vehicles carrying essential personnel or supplies.
For any life threatening emergencies, call 911. For all other calls, use 203-254-4800 for town services.
The next CodeRED update is planned for mid day on Tuesday.
Please stay home, stay warm and stay safe.
