STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING

FAIRFIELD, CT (February 16, 2016) - State Police Major Crime Squad Detectives are actively investigating an officer involved shooting that took place this morning in the Town of Fairfield.
At approximately 6:00 a.m., officers from the Fairfield Police Department were dispatched to an active assault taking place at 22 Mountain Laurel Road in Fairfield. When the first officer arrived on scene he was immediately confronted by a male suspect who was in possession of a weapon. The officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.
Additional officers arrived on scene and assisted with providing medical care to the wounded suspect and checked the residence for victims. While checking the residence officers located four injured victims. Officer provided medical aid to these victims and requested ambulances. The suspect was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been notified and will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
The adult female victim was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, one child was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital and two other children were transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. The three children are ages 12, 13 and 15. The officer involved in the shooting was also transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for evaluation.
The scene was secured and the road was shut down to all traffic to allow the investigation to take place. At the request of the Stamford State’s Attorney’s Office, State Police Detectives from the Western District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene and have assumed the investigation. Investigators from the Stamford State’s Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and are also assisting with the investigation.
At this time the identification of the officer, suspect and victims is not being released pending notification to their families. The road will remain shut down into the evening as detectives continue to process the scene. This investigation is active and ongoing.
